Italy, Texas Soil Amendment - December 2008
Ervin “Doc” Byers, of Italy, Texas, conducted his own experiment using soil from under a MOR Compost Cover in the planter on your left. Dr. Byers then used a competitor’s soil in the planter on your right. Even after the competitor’s seed had a decisive 3 or 4 inch growing start when planted, the flower growing in the MOR soil now towers over the competition’s plant and has recently bloomed. Just in time for the Holidays!
After the results were in regarding his recent plant test, Ervin “Doc” Byers was asked to make a statement assessing those results. Mr. Byers made these comments, “Throughout my years, I have often experimented with different species of plants. My goal is usually to try getting plant life, not local to Texas, to grow here. When I heard of MOR’s compost cover experiment, however, I decided to get involved. I originally donated food scraps to help build the piles. And after the pile had been composted and settled for about six weeks, I challenged a MOR representative to a soil challenge. As I recall, the MOR representative was quite confident the soil/mulch combination from underneath the MOR compost cover would ensure faster growth and bloom long before the other soil mixture that I had purchased at a gardening center. After a few weeks, the MOR composted soil/mulch mixture had easily surpassed it’s competition. Admittedly, I was impressed with the results and the confidence the MOR representative shown from the very beginning.”— Ervin “Doc” Byers, Horticulturist
