In Benicia, California in August of 2006, MOR tested the mixing of wood chunks, debris and soils to create enhanced bulking agents designed to speed the actual time it takes a covered compost pile to finish decomposing. The right compost recipe in combination with MOR Compost Covers produces stable finished compost in a fraction of the time compared to conventional open windrow composting while reducing both equipment and man hours required in tending to the composting process.

Utah Valley’s north sewer district, which currently composts biosolids with chipped yard trimmings in outdoor windrows, is conducting a pilot project to consider upgrading its operation. The facility produces 30,000 cy of finished compost per year, sold at $20.00/cy, and uses the $500,000/year in revenue to help keep sewer feed down, However, odors have been an issue. (Continued…)

Pilot project cuts odor, cost for humanure compost

A new pilot project is letting local waste managers study a new composting method that takes half the time and emits much less odor.
